The study concerns the analysis of the protagonist of the TV series Wednesday Addams using Cohen’s monster theory (4th thesis) and semiotic analysis. The researchers interpret the meaning of monsters embodying societal fears and representing difference; this research looks at how Wednesday stands out. The current study focuses on Wednesday’s character as “other” among humans and monsters. The method used for the research is descriptive qualitative, where the research used 04 pictures and dialogues from Season 1 (1st episode). The objectives of the study are to identify Wednesday Addams as a cultural other and as a monster. The study extracts the meaning of Wednesday and other characters’ dialogues and pictures of her contrasting traits and unique viewpoint and by decoding the symbols she embodies. We aim to understand her role as a symbol of defiance and difference.
After the analysis, it is concluded that there are many signs and symbols in her dialogues and pictures that give meaning to her identity as a gothic character.
