Abstract

This research is conducted to explore the issues of ecological awareness that are presented in green content of secondary-level English textbooks in Punjab, Pakistan. The prominent issues like climate change, pollution, and depletion of forest resources, education is essential in nurturing the ecological literacy and sustainable ideals in young learners. This research focused on the green content in the English textbooks recommended by Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board in cultivating environmental awareness among the students in the secondary level. Qualitative research is appropriate for this study because it allows the researcher to explore how the environmental themes are represented, depicted, and framed in the context of the chosen textbooks. The research employs Ecological Discourse Analysis proposed by Charles J. Fillmore (1993) to systematically analyze the Grade 9 and Grade 10 English textbooks. The study identifies and examines environmental and eco-friendly themes found in reading passages, poems, essays, and comprehension texts. The study creates an emphasis on the possibility of the use of the English language education as a transformative factor in ensuring sustainable development and ecological responsibility of future citizens
