Abstract

This paper presents a study of Postmodern Urdu Nazm in a postcolonial context and examines how colonial influences persisted even after political independence at the intellectual, cultural, economic and civilizational levels and how Urdu Nazm gave poetic expression to these influences. Postmodern Urdu poetry is generally viewed in terms of ambiguity, internalization, linguistic experimentation, symbolism and stylistic innovation, however, postcolonial consciousness also holds a very important position in its intellectual and historical background. Issues such as identity crisis, cultural alienation, political oppression, cultural monopoly, global imperialism, internal colonialism, economic exploitation and consumerism come to the fore in this poetry.

The research has attempted to clarify that modern colonialism maintained its hegemony in new forms through economic, cultural, intellectual and informational means rather than traditional political occupation. Global capitalism, consumer culture, media and Western cultural influences have affected the local languages, cultural values and collective identity of third world societies, which has been reflected in postmodern Urdu poetry in the form of various poetic symbols, metaphors and stylistic experiments. In this context, the inner anguish of the postmodern poet is not just a personal feeling but also a symbol of a broader collective and cultural crisis.

The article also makes it clear that the concept of resistance in postmodern Urdu Nazm is not limited to political protest but is also associated with cultural self-awareness, recovery of identity, preservation of local culture and the desire for human freedom. Therefore, reading postmodern poetry in a postcolonial context makes its hidden political, cultural and historical meanings more clear. The main conclusion of the research is that postmodern Urdu Nazm is a sensitive poetic reaction against colonial heritage, global imperialism and contemporary cultural crisis, which connects the inner anxiety of the individual with collective history, cultural memory and resistance consciousness.
