Abstract
World these days has become a global village and hence, English language has spread throughout the world, mainly due to the globalization, as people from different regions of the world are connected with each other through various social platforms. Unlike the use of English in the same manner, people at various localities have begun to speak their localized English. This study focuses on an examination of the influence of the century of globalization on English language, particularly in terms of World Englishes. Moreover, in this study, it was investigated how the university students are using English and what are their perspectives towards the use of English in Pakistan. We interviewed ten university students, asked them questions regarding their use of English and recorded their answers. What we discovered is that globalization leads people to the desire of using English. It additionally prompts them to blend English and their local languages. Internet and social media are very important for developing avenues of usage for the English language. We pointed out that globalization not only spread English, but it also changed it, mixed it with the language and cultures of other regions. English language is evolving due to its influence and dominance around the world. It is a language change taking place all across the globe even in Pakistan, where people speak their own dialects in English. It is globalization that is driving people to choose English. Due to this approach towards English language, it has become more popular and more diverse and that is what we see when we look at how people in Pakistan use the English language.
