Abstract

This study examines the spiritual and moral training of women in the Akhtari reformative tradition, particularly in the light of the teachings and reformative efforts of Maulana Shah Hakim Muhammad Akhtar (RA). The study focuses on the major principles of his approach, including adherence to the Qur'an and Sunnah, purification of the self, remembrance of Allah, modesty, moral discipline, self-accountability and the fulfillment of family responsibilities. Particular attention is given to the methods of religious and spiritual guidance available to women while maintaining the requirements of Islamic modesty. The study also considers the relevance of these principles to the spiritual, ethical and family life of Muslim women in the contemporary period. The analysis indicates that the reformative approach of Maulana Shah Hakim Muhammad Akhtar was not limited to formal devotional practices; rather, it sought to connect spirituality with everyday life, family responsibilities and moral conduct. His teachings emphasize that remembrance of Allah, observance of Shariah, moral purification and continuous self-reform should become part of a person's ordinary life. The study concludes that the Akhtari reformative tradition provides a significant area for further academic research, particularly regarding women's spiritual education, ethical development and the relationship between Sufi reform and family life in South Asian Muslim society.
